C2 Super 1600 in 2nd place overall
Day two of the Jordan Rally ended after 109.84 gruelling kilometres. Eight special stages were on the programme, all to the northeast of the Dead Sea. Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia, driving for the Equipe de France FFSA, ended the day in second place, having set nearly all the fastest stage times. Shaun Gallagher, in the second Super 1600 C2, had a consistent run and finished fourth. He still leads the C2 Junior Experience, ahead of Hans Weijs - who had a few misfortunes with his C2-R2 MAX during the second leg. Finally, Italian driver Francisco Fanari retired with an overheating engine on SS10.
Shaun Gallagher (EI) – Michael Morreffy (GB) (Citroën C2 Super 1600) Born 07/06/80 – Single – Lives County Donegal (Ireland) « During the first loop of stages I had a few gearbox problems. I don’t know exactly where these problems came from, but we will try and investigate further during the service halt. All in all, everything went well today. The stages were once more very difficult, and it was extremely hot inside the car. We’re now going to try to hold onto a decent place in the Junior classification, given that tomorrow is not going to be at all easy. It’s hard to attack, so we will need to be careful to hold onto our position. »
Sébastien Ogier (FR) – Julien Ingrassia (FR) (Citroën C2 Super 1600) Born 17/12/83 – Single – Lives Forest St Julien (France) « This morning we set off with the intention of posting the quickest times possible in order to make back a bit of the ground that we lost yesterday. We drove a sensible race and we’re very pleased to have set seven out of a possible eight fastest stage times. This allows us to get back onto the provisional podium of the Jordan Rally, which is a very big satisfaction for us. Furthermore, we’ve had no problems at all with our C2 Super 1600, which has proved itself to be truly up to the challenge of this extremely demanding terrain. We’re going to be very careful during the final day, as we will have to contest the longest stage of the rally twice. One mistake there could ruin all our hard work, so we’ll be concentrating firmly on getting to the finish line safely. »
Hans Weijs (NL) – Hans Van Goor (NL) (Citroën C2-R2 MAX) Born 19/12/86 – Single – Lives Elst (Netherlands) « The day didn’t go tremendously well for us. For a start, we had some electrical problems in the morning on SS10. After crossing a watersplash, some warning lights lit up on the dashboard of our C2-R2 MAX and then the car stopped. On SS13 we lost time again following an off-road excursion. We were able to get going again, but the car was slightly damaged. Having said that we’ve got through all the stages of day two, and we’re hoping for a little better luck tomorrow. »
