The 10.35km Kavala stage, the eighth of the day, saw Mikko Hirvonen and Sebastien Loeb closely matched at the head of the field but sadly separated by over half a minute in the overall standings. Behind, the battle for third position continued with Jari Matti Latvala setting the pace in his Ford Focus WRC - tied with Citroen's Sebastien Ogier - with a best time of 5:10.1 seconds.
With his second stage win of Rally Finland, Latvala extended his advantage over Citroen’s Dani Sordo by a fraction with the gap back up to three seconds. Hirvonen was third fastest over the stage with Loeb and Sordo taking fourth and fifth respectively with just two seconds covered the fastest five runners.
Matti Rantanen remains unchallenged in fifth position in his Munchi’s Ford over two minutes adrift of the battling Sordo and Latvala but the fight for sixth is far from over. Sebastien Ogier equalled Latvala’s fastest stage time in his Citroen Junior C4 and in doing so moves sixth ahead of Mads Ostberg by 2.7 seconds with Jari Ketomaa in eighth position a further 14 seconds adrift.
Matthew Wilson and Conrad Rautenbach remain a distant ninth and tenth for Stobart Ford and the Citroen Junior squad.
The long 29.29km Vaarinmaja stage concludes the day two action shortly.
